🌸【春天印象·国际艺术邀请展 2026】Henry C. Lee (1938–2026): Forensic Genius and Beacon of Truth

In Memory of Dr. Henry C. Lee: A Beacon of Truth Illuminating Humanity

Henry C. Lee (November 22, 1938 – March 27, 2026)

On March 27, 2026, the world quietly lost a legendary figure who defended justice through science and pursued truth with unwavering rationality. The life of Henry C. Lee was not only a chronicle of tireless dedication spanning eras and continents but also a grand tribute to human conscience and the spirit of science.

Born in Rugao, Jiangsu, in 1938, Lee’s early life was far from easy. From a privileged childhood, he endured the turbulence of war, familial loss, and upheaval—his father perished in the sinking of the Taiping ship, plunging the family into hardship. These early trials forged his resilience and sense of duty, ultimately guiding him toward a life in law enforcement and forensic science, determined to safeguard justice and truth with his whole life.

In the United States, Lee’s extraordinary determination and intellect propelled him from a frontline police officer to one of the world’s foremost forensic experts. He became the first Asian public safety commissioner in Connecticut and established internationally influential forensic programs at the University of New Haven. The cases he investigated spanned the U.S. and the Chinese-speaking world, from high-profile criminal cases to complex historical mysteries—each reflecting his meticulous attention to detail and profound respect for evidence.

Lee contributed to landmark investigations, including inquiries related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and provided new leads in cases long deemed unsolvable. Revered as a “super detective,” he elevated science to its highest practical level. His famed “Table Leg Theory”—integrating the crime scene, eyewitness testimony, physical evidence, and chance—became a guiding principle for countless forensic professionals and exemplified his deep understanding of the complex, multidimensional nature of truth.

Yet greatness is never one-dimensional. Controversies in his later years reminded the world that the pursuit of science and justice demands constant reflection and refinement. This makes his life all the more authentic and profound—a mirror of both achievement and the challenges of his time.

Lee often said he was “here to serve humanity,” a statement that encapsulates his life’s essence. From Taiwan to America, from laboratories to crime scenes, from classrooms to international forums, he consistently demonstrated what responsibility and mission truly mean.

Today, as we reflect on his remarkable life, we honor more than the passing of a forensic master; we confront a deeper question: in a complex and chaotic world, what truly constitutes the truth? And do we have the courage and capacity to seek it?

Though he has departed, the light he ignited continues to shine.

May this light guide all who follow in his footsteps.
