This comes from a real memory in my life.
I wrote this song. This version is different — I played piano and sang it in English. It’s a beautiful and touching song that I share with my brother.
That lotus-pink dress still blooms in my memory.
Years may take us far apart, but love has no distance.
When I was sixteen, my brother came home from Beijing and brought me a gift — a lotus-pink dress. In the sunlight it looked like a flower, and I still remember how it felt like spring on my shoulders.
Years later I visited him in Xi’an. We stood on his balcony looking at the blue sky and the distant Qinling Mountains, talking about the world and the future. Another summer night we walked through the city lights, with laughter and the scent of street food in the warm air.
Many years later we met again. He gave me a small jade cabbage as a gift. I had nothing to give him in return — only gratitude in my heart.
This is the story behind my composition: “The Lotus-Pink Dress.” 🌸
