I composed an original song based on William Blake’s Love & Harmony.
What interests me is not only the finished song, but the process of turning a poem into music.
When I read a poem, I don't immediately think about melody. I first try to feel its rhythm, its emotion, and the meaning behind the words.
Then the music gradually begins to take shape.
Sometimes the melody comes quickly. Sometimes I have to return to the poem again and again before I find the right musical direction.
That is one of the things I love about composing: the final song may sound simple, but there can be a long process behind a few minutes of music.
This is my original musical interpretation of Blake's poem.
I'm curious: when you hear a poem turned into a song, do you prefer the music to stay close to the original feeling of the poem, or do you like the composer to create a completely new interpretation?
